Abstract

This paper addresses the intersection between International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and International Environmental Law, focusing on the protection of natural resources during armed conflicts. The relevance of this topic lies in the social, political, and economic importance of environmental preservation in the face of the damage caused by modern wars, which compromise ecosystems. The main objective is to analyze how the Geneva Conventions can incorporate environmental norms. The research adopts a qualitative approach, with legal-dogmatic and legal-social analyses. As a result, it proposes the creation of an environmental protocol within the Geneva Conventions and the recognition of ecocide as a war crime, aiming to increase accountability for environmental damage and strengthen international cooperation in preserving ecosystems during conflicts.
